Kaptain is an Afro-rap fusion artist from Nigeria, hailing originally from Akwa Ibom State but raised in Benin City, Edo State. Born on January 19, 1996, he started his musical journey at age 16 and initially gained recognition for his smooth sing-rap style, blending English and pidgin with influences from artists like Drake, Burna Boy, Kendrick Lamar, and Meek Mill. He first gained attention with his EP Kapacity in 2020, featuring popular tracks like "Gbese Gbese" and "Problem." His follow-up EP, Love Ship, solidified his presence in the Nigerian music scene.
