Kelly Price, born Kelly Cherelle Price on April 4, 1973, in Far Rockaway, New York, is an American R&B singer, songwriter, and gospel artist. She first gained attention in the early 1990s, working as a background vocalist for major artists like Mariah Carey, George Michael, and Elton John. Her big break came in 1998 with the release of her debut album, Soul of a Woman, which included the hit single "Friend of Mine." The song made history by reaching #1 on the U.S. R&B chart without a music video to support it. Over the years, Kelly Price has released several successful albums, including Mirror, Mirror (2000) and Priceless (2003). In 2006, she recorded a live gospel album, This Is Who I Am, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Gospel Chart. Besides her music career, she has acted in films like Bringing Down the House and Why Did I Get Married? and also appeared in Tyler Perry's stage plays. Price has also contributed to other artists' works, including collaborations with Kanye West and co-writing songs for K. Michelle. In addition to her music, Kelly Price is an advocate for breast cancer awareness, inspired by her personal experience with the disease within her family. Her philanthropic work includes a substantial donation to breast cancer research and her role as chairwoman of the Sister to Sister Fitness Festival.
