Kotto Bass, born Nyamsi Theodore Auger in 1963, was a renowned Cameroonian musician best known for his contributions to the makossa genre. He started his music career as a bassist, later evolving into a vocalist. Kotto Bass gained significant fame in the late '80s and early '90s, particularly for his work with the Makassi Band Corporation and his powerful voice that blended with his dynamic bass-playing skills. His major hits, including Concours de la patience, Edith ndola'a ngo, and Papa promesse, left a lasting mark on the Cameroonian music scene. His musical style merged elements of makossa with influences from other African genres, making his work particularly popular both in Cameroon and neighboring countries. Tragically, Kotto Bass passed away in 1996 at the age of 33 under mysterious circumstances, shocking fans and leaving a void in the Cameroonian music world. Despite his untimely death, his music remains iconic, continuing to influence the genre and evoke nostalgia for the golden age of makossa.
