Nasio Fontaine, born in 1969 in the village of Carte-Bois in Dominica, is a reggae artist known for his conscious and uplifting music. Growing up as the youngest of seven children in a family with African and Carib Indian roots, Nasio began singing in church and school choirs at a young age. After moving to St. Maarten in 1981, he became deeply influenced by Rastafari and reggae music, drawing inspiration from icons like Bob Marley, Burning Spear, and Joseph Hill. In 1986, Nasio released his first single, "Born to Be Free," which quickly gained popularity across the Caribbean. His 1990 follow-up, "Babylon is Falling," further solidified his reputation as a prominent voice in reggae. By 1994, Nasio had released his debut album Reggae Power, which earned critical acclaim and led to a US promotional tour. His music is known for its focus on social issues, revolution, and the empowerment of oppressed people worldwide. Nasio's lyrics are deeply rooted in his Rastafari beliefs, aiming to uplift and guide listeners through life's challenges, often addressing themes of freedom and consciousness.
